Rust buster re-cap: season opener 5km

My official 2015 running season opener was this past weekend. A rust buster 5km, through the MEC series. My body was feeling pretty good pre-race (which is good considering where I was just a few months ago) although tired; which for me is pretty normal. As scheduled, I actually took Saturday as my rest day which was very difficult: I do not enjoy to rest or recover.

My pre-race must have's: Picky Bars, Run Gum and Nuun

Race day my legs felt pretty good, and although I didn't get the warm-up I would have liked, I was ready to rock and roll, and see where I was at.

The start felt good, and at the 2km mark I was on my 'A' time goal; feeling good at the pace I was at. The course was an out and back, and by the time I reached the 3km mark my pace had slowed dramatically. Into the wind the rest of the way home was a fight, and my pace just couldn't keep up to what I wanted.

I'm not sure if I went out too quick, or if the wind won that day, but I ended up finishing with my 'C' time goal. Definitely slower than I wanted, but not a total wash as it's still early in the season and I have lots of time to build my speed back up.

Almost at the finish

I'm already looking forward to my next opportunity to race at the end of the month. I have a double header race weekend with two races in less than 12 hours!
