Back from runcation!

Any opportunity I get to run in a new location, I dive right in; and running in France and Switzerland for the past month was definitely a blast! Summer in Europe is hot, hot, hot AND humid and I absolutely loved it!

Finishing a run being completely soaked in sweat from head to toe is my idea of a wonderful way to clock some miles. Maybe it's because we spend 8 months in winter, but the heat and me agree! I've never been able to run so many days in shorts and tank tops! I even got new runner tan lines!

Although we were there for a family vacation I was also there to compete; my 'A' race for the season. It was an 8km cross-country and I was excited and ready to race. Training leading up had been going well, paces were hit and lead up races felt great.

And then race day hit. My legs were heavy and I had nothing. My 'A' goal time was out the window fairly early on, then the 'B' goal. In the end I had to settle for my 'C' goal time, not at all what I had hoped for. I just had nothing, even though I gave everything.

Those days happen, you just never want it to happen on race day, and especially not your main race for the year.

After race day I had some wonderful training sessions while over there, and loved running on new trails, through different neighborhoods, along rivers and around lakes.

Back in Canada now I've found my legs again and am looking forward to double cross season! Cyclocross and cross-country running. My favorite time of year!
